Valdez, New Mexico
Peace & Pizza
About the property
Tucked behind a private gate on a pinon-dotted mesa between Taos and Taos Ski Valley, this one-of-a-kind adobe hideaway is built for slow mornings and long mountain views. Cook in a kitchen built around a showpiece pizza oven, gather by the kiva fireplace, and unwind in the spa-like primary suite. Two living areas, three bedrooms, and walls of glass framing the Sangre de Cristos make easy room for nine - and the dogs are welcome too. Peace, pizza, and big New Mexico sky await.
Key Features
A gated drive winds up to this one-of-a-kind adobe home, set alone on a pinon-and-ponderosa mesa with sweeping views toward the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Hand-sculpted walls, a curved metal roofline, soaring pine ceilings, skylights, and walls of glass give the home a true Northern New Mexico soul. The showpiece is a kitchen built around a sculptural pizza oven - but two living areas, a spa-like primary suite, and more than 2,900 square feet of room for nine make it easy to settle in and stay a while.
Sleeping
Three bedrooms sleep up to nine guests. The primary suite features a king bed, a walk-in closet, direct access to the enclosed patio, and a spa-like en-suite bath. A second bedroom offers a queen bed with mountain views, and the bunk room is built for the crew with a full-over-full bunk plus a twin.
Bathrooms
Two full bathrooms carry the home's artful style. The primary en-suite is a retreat of its own, with a deep soaking tub set beneath a picture window, a large walk-in shower, and a vessel-sink vanity. The guest bathroom features a striking mosaic-tiled walk-in shower.
Living
Gather in the open great room beneath warm pine ceilings, where a comfortable living area with a smart TV flows into the dining space and kitchen. A second sitting room is the cozy heart of the home, anchored by a white kiva-style wood-burning fireplace and framed by an arched window. A tucked-away desk nook with a mountain-view window makes remote work easy, and a wood stove adds extra warmth on cool evenings.
Kitchen
The custom kitchen is a cook's playground: a sculptural pizza oven, a gas range, generous granite counters, dual sinks, a wine fridge, and a breakfast bar with seating. It's fully equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, blender, toaster, and everything needed for a homemade feast - pizza night included.
Outdoor
Step out to flagstone patios and an enclosed sun-room dining space wrapped in glass. Fire up the gas grill, settle into the colorful chairs perched at the edge of the view, and soak in the high-desert quiet with the mountains beyond. Native landscaping and stacked-stone walls blend the home into its wild setting.
Surrounding
The home sits in the hills above Valdez, a short drive from the galleries, restaurants, and historic plaza of Taos and the slopes of Taos Ski Valley. Hike, bike, and explore Carson National Forest right out the door, or set off on a scenic drive through the Sangre de Cristos.
Locally Rooted, Elevated Hospitality
We're Sierra Sol Elevated Stays, a locally rooted, family-owned team serving Northern New Mexico. We believe a stay should be more than just a place to land - it should feel personal, seamless, and connected to the beauty and spirit of this special place. From booking to departure, we're here with thoughtful support, clear communication, and trusted local guidance to help you settle in, feel cared for, and make lasting memories in New Mexico.
The entire gated home and its grounds are yours for the duration of your stay. Self check-in is simple with a lockbox at the front door - we'll send your code before arrival. On-site parking is available for up to three vehicles.
A car is essential here, and four-wheel or all-wheel drive is required in winter - the final approach is a narrow, steep mountain road, and snow tires (chains in heavy weather) are a must in the colder months. From Taos, follow NM-150 toward Arroyo Seco, turn onto NM-230, then onto Cerro Colorado Road and continue to the property's gate. The road is plowed regularly through the winter. Please drive slowly and watch for wildlife.
A few details to help you plan:
- This home does not have air-conditioning; at elevation the mountain air stays comfortably cool, and ceiling fans plus the home's natural ventilation keep things pleasant.
- For safety and security, an exterior camera on the roofline overlooks the front entry and driveway. There are no cameras inside the home.
- The home is heated by a furnace, plus a wood-burning fireplace and a wood stove. Please note that firewood is not provided.
- Access is via a private gate and a narrow, steep mountain road; four-wheel or all-wheel drive is required in winter (see Getting Around).
- Self check-in is via lockbox; on-site parking is for up to three vehicles.
- The home welcomes up to four dogs for a small nightly pet fee. Guests must be 21 or older to book.
- Trash is carried out - please take bags to the entry gate on collection day.
- The water heater near the primary suite can make some noise after a shower or bath; running it well before bedtime helps.
